چکیده

Sex Pheromone, Tetradecenyl Acetates, Planotortrix excessana, Tortricidae, Sibling Species Planotortrix excessana was found to include moths of two distinct pheromone-types which were not mutually attractive. Tetradecyl acetate and (Z)-8-tetradecenyl acetate were identified as pheromone components in one, and two other tetradecenyl acetates, probably (Z)-5and (Z)-7tetradecenyl acetate, in the other. By contrast with other pherom ones reported from the tribe Archipini, A 11-tetradecenyl compounds were not found in either pheromone-type.

The evolution of desaturase gene regulation involved in sex pheromone production in leafroller moths of the genus planotortrix.

The evolution of mating systems in leafroller moths involves differential regulation of a desaturase gene that produces distinct sex pheromones. In the genus Planotortrix, female P. octo predominantly emits (Z)-8-tetradecenyl acetate due to the expression of desat5 in their pheromone glands, whereas female P. excessana produces a blend of (Z)-5- and (Z)-7-tetradecenyl acetate and does not expre...

Sex Pheromone Evolution Is Associated with Differential Regulation of the Same Desaturase Gene in Two Genera of Leafroller Moths

Chemical signals are prevalent in sexual communication systems. Mate recognition has been extensively studied within the Lepidoptera, where the production and recognition of species-specific sex pheromone signals are typically the defining character. While the specific blend of compounds that makes up the sex pheromones of many species has been characterized, the molecular mechanisms underpinni...

(3E,5Z)-3,5-dodecadienyl acetate was identified by Unelius C.R. et al. as the sex pheromone of the leafroller Bonagota cranaodes (Lepidoptera: Tortricidae), an economically important insect pest of apples in Southern Brazil. In order to elucidate the pheromone structure this compound was first prepared by a methodology in low stereoselectivity and yield. Recently a concise synthesis was reporte...

The effects of floral understoreys on parasitism of leafrollers (Lepidoptera: Tortricidae) on apples in New Zealand

1 Field and laboratory experiments on the conservation biocontrol of lepidopteran leafroller pests were carried out in apples at Lincoln, New Zealand. 2 Apple understoreys were planted with replicated treatments of alyssum (Lobularia maritima), phacelia (Phacelia tanacetifolia) and buckwheat (Fagopyrum esculentum). 3 Rates of parasitism of experimentally released larvae of the light-brown apple...
